Google: Ten Golden Rules - Issues 2006 - MSNBC.com

  • Hire by committee
  • Cater to their every need
  • Pack them in
  • Make coordination easy
  • Eat your own dog food
  • Encourage creativity
  • Strive to reach concensus
  • Don't be evil
  • Data drive decisions
  • Communicate effectively

Easy to say hard to do. Are there themes? I think so. Social relationships are critical. Four of the rules talk about various aspects of getting along. Three talk about communication issues. Maybe the most interesting part is the discussion of the problems of scaling these rules up as Google grows and becomes a global organization. Another way to approach these rules is to see how to use them as a freelancer and consultant.
